COLUMBUS — The Ohio Northern men's soccer team improved its winning streak to eight games as they defeated Capital 2-0 Saturday afternoon at Bernlohr Stadium in Columbus to remain perfect in the Ohio Athletic Conference.
With the win, Northern improves to 13-3-0 overall, 5-0-0 OAC, while Capital falls to 5-8-1, 3-1-1.
Juniors Austin Horton and Patrick Sabol led the way for Northern recording one goal apiece.
Horton struck first in the contest as he found the back of the net in the 2nd minute of competition off an assist from junior Matt Kinkopf to put the Polar Bears on top 1-0.
Northern added an insurance goal minutes later as Sabol was able to capitalize on a Crusaders turnover sealing the 2-0 victory.
Capital pressured the ONU defense in the second half out shooting Northern 11-6 but the Polar Bears held strong as sophomore goalkeeper Dean McNeil recorded a game-high seven saves.
Northern edged Capital in shots by a 15-14 margin, seven of which were on goal.
ONU keeper, McNeil improved to 12-3-0 on the season, recording his sixth shutout.
Northern returns to action Tuesday as they travel to Tiffin to take on Heidelberg at 4 pm.
