ADA -- The Ohio Northern men's soccer team extended it's winning streak to six games Saturday evening with a 1-0 victory over Mount Union at Kerscher Stadium.
The Polar Bears move to 11-3-0 overall, 3-0-0 Ohio Athletic Conference, while Mount Union falls to 6-4-1, 1-2-0.
Junior David Janusz put Northern on the board in the 18th minute as he received a free kick in traffic from junior Dustin Lorenzo and beat the keeper with a header to give Northern the early 1-0 lead.
After scoring the early goal, the Polar Bears relied heavily on its defense while only allowing four first half shots to Mount Union and one corner kick.
"I was really pleased with the way our defense played tonight," head coach Brent Ridenour said. "Mount Union made it very difficult for us offensively tonight. Fortunately, we scored one early and were able to rely on our defense."
With the victory, Head Coach Brent Ridenour collected his 260th career victory at Ohio Northern.
Northern held Mount Union to 10 shots on the evening and only one corner kick. The Polar Bears recorded 17 shots and added seven corner kicks during the contest.
Sophomore goalkeeper Dean McNeil earned the victory for ONU, as he recorded two saves. McNeil improves his record to 10-3-0 on the season and 3-0-0 in the Ohio Athletic Conference.
