ADA — Junior David Janusz led the Ohio Northerns men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over No. 11-ranked Ohio Wesleyan Wednesday evening at Kerscher Stadium.
The Polar Bears improve to 5-2-0 on the season while Ohio Wesleyan falls to 5-1-1.
The first half was a defensive battle as the Polar Bears outshot the Bishops 8-5 and edged them in corner kicks by a 2-1 margin.
Janusz earned a penalty kick after the Bishop keeper committed a foul in the 25th minute, but the Polar Bears failed to capitalize on the attempt.
Northern broke the tie after Janusz took a pass from junior Matt Kinkopf in the 57th minute and beat the keeper to give the Polar Bears a 1-0 lead.
Ohio Wesleyan would get plenty of opportunities to capitalize after outshooting the Polar Bears in corner kicks in the second half 5-1, but could not take advantage.
Northern edged Ohio Welseyan in total shots by a 16-13 margin.
Sophomore Dean McNeil earned the victory for Northern after posting five saves. McNeil improves his record to 5-2-0 on the year.
Northern will return to action Friday evening at 2:30 pm as they travel to Case Western Reserve to play the Spartans at Disanto Field.
