MARIETTA -- Freshman Matt Kinkopf scored two goals to lead the No. 20 Ohio Northern men's soccer team to a 6-1 win over Marietta on Saturday afternoon at Marietta Field.
The Polar Bears improve to 12-3-0 on the season and 4-1-0 in OAC play, while the Pioneers fall to 3-10-1, 0-4-1.
Kinkopf now has a team leading 12 goals this season and has scored five goals in his past three games.
Marietta struck first when Wesley Riley beat freshman goalie Evan Bader to the lower right just 11:48 into the match.
ONU would then rattle off six unanswered goals.
Kinkopf would score his first goal of the afternoon, taking the pass from freshman Dustin Lorenzo and beating the keeper to the top right.
Senior Jeremy Barnes scored just before the half on a free kick to put Northern up 2-1.
Sophomore Keegan Ross made it 3-1 in favor of the Polar Bears, taking a pass from senior Stephen Perkins and beating the goalie in the 52nd minute.
Kinkopf added his second goal of the match at the 59:25 mark, beating the keeper to the upper right. Freshman Austin Horton picked up the assist on the play.
Freshman David Janusz made it 5-1 in favor of ONU, taking a pass from Ross and blasting home his fourth goal of the season.
Freshman Brock Hersch scored his first career goal in the 89th minute to close out the scoring.
Bader made three saves in goal and moves to 12-3 on the season, while Marietta goalie Chris Stollar (3-8-1) made seven.
The Polar Bears took 21 shots on the afternoon, while the Pioneers took four.
Northern also held a 14-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Ohio Northern will return to action on Wednesday, when it hosts Heidelberg at Kerscher Stadium at 4 pm.
