WESTERVILLE -- Freshman Matt Kinkopf scored at the 101:06 mark of the second overtime to cap off a thrilling 3-2 overtime victory for the No. 20 Ohio Northern men's soccer team over Otterbein on Tuesday afternoon at Clements Field.
The Polar Bears improve to 11-3-0 on the season and 3-1-0 in OAC play, while the Cardinals fall to 6-7-0, 1-3-0.
Kinkopf would take a pass from freshman David Janusz and fire a shot that deflected off of the post and into the net to give ONU the win.
Otterbein would jump on top first in the 39th minute with a goal from Jonathan Boardman.
The Cardinals would expand their lead to 2-0 on a goal by Jared Pulliam at the 48:48 mark.
Northern would rally and score two goals in a 10-minute span to force overtime.
Freshman Ryan Prescott would cut the deficit to 2-1, taking a pass from senior Ken Wachtel and beating the keeper at the 77:47 mark.
Senior Jeremy Barnes would then tie it at the 86:21 mark, by blasting a free kick past the goalie and into the back of the net to tie the match at 2-2.
The Polar Bears would dominate the overtime, outshooting the Cardinals 6-0 before Kinkopf scored the game-winner.
Kinkopf now has a team best 10 goals this season.
Freshman goalie Evan Bader made three saves and moves to 11-3-0 on the season.
Kyle Ripma recorded 10 saves for OU and falls to 6-7-0.
Northern posted 22 shots, with 13 being on goal, while the Cardinals had 12 shots, with five being on goal.
ONU also held an 8-4 advantage in corner kicks.
Ohio Northern will return to action on Saturday with a road contest at Marietta at 1 pm.
