ADA -- The No. 11 Ohio Northern men's soccer team scored three first half goals en route to a 3-0 victory in the first ever match at the new Kerscher Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The Polar Bears improve to 10-3-0 and 2-1-0 in the OAC, while the Yellow Jackets fall to 4-7-3, 2-1-0.
Freshman Matt Kinkopf scored the first two goals of the afternoon.
His first goal came in the 20th minute, when the Northern stole the ball and senior Matt Fleming found Kinkopf who beat the drawn out goalie.
At the 33:17 mark, Kinkopf would register his second goal when he stole the ball and beat the keeper from just inside the box to the lower right.
Less than two minutes later, senior Ken Wachtel dribbled down the right side and towards the goal and sent a ball to sophomore Shintaroh Itoh who beat the goalie to the top right to make it 3-0 in favor of ONU.
Northern kept the pressure up in the second half and freshman Austin Horton made it 4-0 in the 78th minute with a chip over the goalkeeper.
"Today was a great way to open the new Kerscher Stadium," said head coach Brent Ridenour. "We are really happy to be here. We played well against an undefeated OAC team and our defense was great all afternoon."
Freshman Evan Bader (10-3-0) made four saves for his sixth shutout of the season.
Tyler Beaton made 11 saves in goal for Baldwin Wallace.
The Polar Bears took 21 shots, with 15 being on goal, while the Yellow Jackets took 10 shots with four being on goal.
