DEFIANCE -- Sophomore Keegan Ross scored his first goal of the season in the 51st minute to lead the No. 14 Ohio Northern men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Defiance at Winsper-Knoble Field on Tuesday afternoon.
The Polar Bears move to 7-2-0 on the season, while the Yellow Jackets fall t0 4-5-0.
The teams battled to a scoreless tie at the half, with ONU owning an 8-6 advantage in shots.
Northern then jumped in front on the goal by Ross.
Sophomore Chase Mueller sent a pass to senior Stephen Perkins, who then flicked a pass to Ross who beat the keeper, to give Northern the lead.
The Polar Bears defense would lock down and hang on for the 1-0 win.
Freshman goalkeeper Evan Bader (7-2-0) made four saves for his fourth shutout of the season.
Sean Roberts fell to 4-5 for DC, making six stops in goal.
ONU ended up with a 17-11 advantage in shots, including a 7-4 edge in shots on goal.
The Polar Bears also took 16 corner kicks, while Defiance took six.
Ohio Northern will return to action on Saturday, when it closes out its non-conference season at Manchester (Ind.) at 2 pm.
