ADA -- Senior Jeremy Barnes had three assists and freshman David Janusz scored two goals to lead the No. 8 Ohio Northern men's soccer team to a 6-0 victory over Wittenberg on a hot Tuesday afternoon at the ONU Soccer Field.
The Polar Bears remain perfect at 4-0 on the season, while the Tigers fall to 2-4.
ONU got on the board early, when freshman Austin Horton passed to Barnes who then passed to sophomore Shintaroh Itoh who dribbled around the goalie and scored his first goal of the season.
Northern added another goal at the 25:40 mark, when Barnes dribbled through the defense and crossed a ball to freshman Matt Kinkopf, who beat the goalie to make it 2-0 in favor of the Polar Bears.
Janusz made it a 3-0 ONU lead just before halftime, when he took a long pass from junior Daniel Colvin and dribbled down the right sideline and beat the keeper.
The Polar Bears continued scoring in the second half, when junior Chuck D'Imperio sent a free kick into the box that was headed into the goal by freshman Aaron Smith.
Barnes sent a corner kick into the box at the 58:40 mark and senior Stephen Perkins blasted it into the net to make it 5-0.
Janusz capped off the scoring in the 78th minute when he took a pass from D'Imperio and beat the goalie to the lower left.
"I though we played really well defensively," head coach Brent Ridenour said. "We are in the middle of a tough week. Being able to get a lot of guys playing was very helpful. We look forward to competing this weekend."
Freshman Evan Bader (4-0) recorded his third straight shutout by making three saves at goalie.
James Van Artsdalen (2-4) made eight stops in goal for Wittenberg.
Northern fired 31 shots, 15 of which were on goal, while Wittenberg took seven shots with three being on goal.
The Polar Bears also held a 14-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Ohio Northern will return to action on Friday, when it hosts Albion (Mich.) at 4 pm.
