ADA--The No. 9 Ohio Northern men's soccer team registered their fifth consecutive shutout, downing Marietta by a 3-0 score Saturday afternoon at the ONU Soccer Field.
The Polar Bears are now 14-2 overall and a perfect 5-0 in OAC play, while the Pioneers fall to 4-9, 1-4.
Northern has not given up a goal in 495 minutes and 10 seconds of game play.
Northern jumped on the board at the 18:50 mark in the first half when freshman Keegan Ross headed in a ball off of a free kick from senior Chris Matejka.
The goal was the ninth of the season for Ross, while Matejka picked up his seventh assist.
ONU would add another goal just before halftime when junior Stephen Perkins put the ball in the net.
This was Perkins first goal of the season, with senior Nate Bascom picking up the assist.
The Polar Bears would finish off the scoring at the 48:29 mark when freshman Shintaroh Itoh notched his first goal of the season.
Senior Cameron Johnson picked up his fifth assist and Bascom notched his team leading eighth.
Bascom now just needs two points and two assists ONU's all time career points and assists leader.
Senior goalie Mac Church (14-2) made one save on the afternoon for his school record 42nd shutout.
Chris Stollar made 12 saves for the Pioneers and falls to 4-9.
The Polar Bears outshot Marietta by a 24-1 margin, including a 15-1 advantage on goal.
Ohio Northern will be in action again on Tuesday when they travel to Heidelberg to face off against the Student Princes at 7 pm.
