ADA – The No. 8 Ohio Northern men's soccer team took an impressive 34 shots in their 6-1 victory over Manchester on Sunday afternoon at the ONU Soccer Field.
The win gives the Polar Bears a 9-2-0 record on the season while the Spartans fall to 1-8-0.
Six different Polar Bears scored goals in the game with the first from Senior Cameron Johnson in the eighth minute.
Shortly after, senior Nate Bascom passed the ball to senior Austin Windsor who beat the goalie for his third goal of the season in the ninth minute.
Bascom then scored a goal of his own in the 12th minute when he took a pass from freshman Chase Mueller. This was Bascom's 11th goal on the season.
Then, in the 21st minute, Matejka passed the ball to senior Josh Green who fired the ball into the net for his first goal of the year and put the Polar Bears up 4-0.
With 10 seconds left in the first half Manchester's Austin Finley took the Spartans only shot of the game and scored to put Manchester on the board, 4-1.
In the 62nd minute Barnes knocked in a loose ball to put ONU up 5-1.
Freshman Keegan Ross picked up the assist on the play.
Junior Brett Bamba passed the ball to senior Patrick Roberts who beat the goalie to right for his first goal of the season in the 77th minute.
The assist was the first of the year for Bomba.
Senior goalkeeper Mac Church improved his record to 9-2-0
Manchester's goalie Grant Noakes fell to 1-8-0 and had 12 saves in the match.
The Polar Bears outshot the Spartans 34-1. Eighteen of the 34 Polar Bear shots were on goal.
Ohio Northern begins OAC play on Saturday when they host Mount Union at 3:30 pm.
