ADA — The No.4-ranked Ohio Northern men's soccer team opened up this weekend's ONU Invitational with a 3-2 win over Oberlin at the ONU Soccer Field on Friday afternoon.
With the win, ONU improves to 5-0, while the Yeomen fall to 0-4.
Northern got on the board first when junior Austin Windsor recorded his first collegiate goal, drilling a free kick into the corner of the net from about 30 yards out.
The Yeomen answered with goals from Oliver Miller-Farrel in the 11th minute and Aidan Apel in the 38th minute, causing ONU to be trailing in a game for the first time this season.
ONU answered back in the 44th minute, as senior Dustin Connor put in a header for his first goal of the year off a Cory Dobkins assist, tying the game at 2-2 heading into halftime.
Junior Cameron Johnson then notched his team-leading fifth goal and his third game-winner of the season to give ONU the 3-2 advantage in the 59th minute. Passes from senior Christian Huelsman and junior Nate Bascom created an opening for Johnson to beat the goalie for the score.
Junior Mac Church remains undefeated as ONU's keeper this year, stopping three Oberlin shots in the game.
The Polar Bears outshot the Yeomen by totaling 20 shots (10 on goal) compared to Oberlin's 10 shots (six on goal).
ONU will participate in the final game of the ONU Invitational tomorrow, taking on Penn State-Behrend at 2:30 p.m.
