ALLIANCE — The 17th-ranked Ohio Northern men's soccer team battled Ohio Athletic Conference opponent Mount Union to a 1-1 tie at Mount Union Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The Polar Bears move to 8-2-2 overall, while the Purple Raiders move to 6-4-1. Both teams are 1-0-1 in conference action.
Despite outshooting Mount Union 36-9, ONU was only able to knock in one goal.
That goal came in the 63rd minute, when senior Christian Huelsman drilled a loose ball past Mount Union goalie Jon Critell for his fourth goal of the year.
The Purple Raiders answered back in the 77th minute, as Thomas Beck picked up a rebound and put it into the goal, tying the score at 1-1.
ONU outshot Mount Union 13-2 over the two overtime periods, but again, had trouble finding the net.
Critell played well in goal for the Purple Raiders, stopping 12 of the 13 shots he faced.
Junior Mac Church made saves on four of the five shots he faced, as well.
Fellow junior Nate Bascom was around the goal all game, with five of his nine shots on goal.
The Polar Bears will return to action Wednesday when they travel to Manchester (Ind.) for a non-conference game, slated to begin at 4 p.m.
