CLEVELAND — The Polar Bear men's soccer team advances in the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Tournament following an impressive 2-0 win over Rose-Hulman in the first round Saturday evening at Case Field.
The second round will take place tomorrow in Cleveland at 5 p.m. as Northern will face host Case Western Reserve, following its 3-0 win over DePauw (Ind.) Saturday night.
With the win, Ohio Northern moves to 19-2-2 overall, while the Fightin' Engineers' season ends at 16-6.
ONU went up 1-0 in the 40th minute when junior Cameron Johnson headed the ball in, completing the connection from a free kick by senior Cory Dobkins and a pass from senior Dustin Connor.
The goal was Johnson's 12th of the season, while Dobkins earned his seventh assist and Connor his first of the season.
Senior Christian Huelsman notched his tenth goal of the year when he finished a pass from junior Nate Bascom in the 56th minute for the goal and 2-0 advantage.
Bascom earned his team-leading ninth assist of the year.
Northern outshot the Engineers, 19-5, while the Polar Bears defense was stifling and posted the its 14th shutout of the year.
