No. 3 Men's Soccer suffers first loss, falling 3-0 at Transylvania

LEXINGTON, Ky. — The No. 3 Polar Bear men's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season Saturday afternoon, falling 3-0 against Transylvania at Thomas Field in Lexington, Ky.

The Polar Bears move to 6-1-1 overall, while the Pioneers improve to 2-3-1 overall.

Transylvania got on the board first in the 12th minute with a goal by Kyle Smith with assistance from teammate Christian King.

Northern had two scoring opportunities, with seniors Cory Dobkins and Christian Huelsman each notching shots on goal but couldn't connect. At the half, the Pioneers were up 1-0.

The Polar Bears again found shots to take the second half but to no avail. The Pioneers, on the other hand, extended their lead to 2-0 in the 63rd minute when Peter Mikhall finished off a ricocheted save for the score.

Transylvania scored again in the 90th minute with a goal by Ethan Collins to seal the win.

Ohio Northern had a slight shot advantage, taking 11 shots (seven on goal), to the Pioneers' nine (five on goal). Dobkins, and juniors Chris Matejka and Cameron Johnson all took two shots, all of which were on goal.

Northern also had the corner kick advantage, earning nine to Transylvania's two.

The Polar Bears are back in action Wednesday in a battle of nationally-ranked teams when they host No. 12 Ohio Wesleyan at 4 p.m.
