WESTERVILLE — A pair of goals from junior Nate Bascom helped the 16th-ranked Ohio Northern men's soccer team defeat Otterbein 4-0 and remain undefeated in Ohio Athletic Conference action at Clements Field on Tuesday evening.
ONU improves to 11-2-2 overall and 3-0-1 in the OAC, while the Cardinals fall to 3-7-2 overall and 1-3 in the OAC.
Bascom tallied five points on two goals and an assist, giving him eight goals, six assists and 22 points on the year, all at least tied for team-highs.
The Polar Bears got on the board first in the third minute, when junior Chris Matejka put in a Bascom pass for his third goal of the year.
Less than three minutes later, junior Austin Windsor hit a laser from 30 yards out for his second goal of the season on senior ChristianHuelsman's fourth assist, giving ONU a 2-0 lead.
Bascom then scored two straight goals, the first coming in the 18th minute off junior Cameron Johnson's second assist of the season.
His second goal came off a loose ball in the 63rdminute off sophomore Jason Tropf's first assist of the season, giving ONU a 4-0 lead that it never relinquished.
Junior goalie Mac Church earned his eighth shutout of the year and 26th of his career by stopping all three shots he faced.
The Polar Bears will return to action on Saturday as they host the tenth-ranked Yellow Jackets of Baldwin-Wallace in an OAC matchup at 1 p.m.
