ADA — The No. 16-ranked Ohio Northern men's soccer team came from behind to defeat No. 10-ranked Baldwin-Wallace, 2-1, in a conference battle at the ONU Soccer Field on Saturday afternoon.
Behind two goals by junior Nate Bascom, the Polar Bears improve to 12-2-2 overall and 4-0-1 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Yellow Jackets fall to 13-2 and 4-1 in league.
After a scoreless first half, B-W's Ben Deighton drilled a one-timer from 30 yards out into the corner of the net in the 51st minute.
After a B-W foul in the penalty box, Bascom put a penalty kick past B-W goalie Ryan Hulings, tying the score at 1-1.
In the 74th minute, nice passes from juniors Cameron Johnson and Chris Matejka pulled Hulings out of net and allowed Bascom to put it into the net for his tenth goal of the season, giving ONU the 2-1 lead.
Junior goalie Mac Church and the ONU defense limited the Yellow Jackets to two shots on-goal and nine shots overall, while the Polar Bears put 11 shots on-goal out of their 16 total shots.
"Baldwin-Wallace is an amazing team, and we're happy to pull out the win," head coach Brent Ridenour said. "They have the top scoring offense in the OAC and our defense did a great job to limit them to one goal."
The Polar Bears will look to remain unbeaten in OAC play Wednesday as they host to Wilmington for a conference game at 4 p.m.
