LATROBE, Pa. — The Ohio Northern men's lacrosse team opened its 2025 season with a snowy 16-8 victory at St. Vincent (Pa.).

  • Junior Colin Willits (West Chester/Lakota West) had his fifth career hat trick with a team-best 3 goals.
  • Freshman Cooper Mulligan (Middletown/Bishop Fenwick) opened the scoring for ONU to take a 1-0 lead at 12:11.
  • The Polar Bears went on a 5-1 run to open up the first quarter at 5:30 and ended the first quarter with a 7-2 lead.
  • Sophomore Mitchel Luck (Linden, Mich.) led the team with 5 points on 2 goals and 3 assists.
  • St. Vincnet was led by Neal Ritchie, Justin Wodarek, and Liam McCall with 2 goals each. 
  • Northern led 11-5 at halftime and 13-6 after three periods.
  • Eleven different Polar Bears scored a goal in the contest. 
  • Senior Robert Brunner (Cincinnati/Indian Hill) and freshman Peyton Lich (Palmyra, N.Y.) had 4 saves apiece in goal to help get the win. 
  • Ohio Northern out-shot St. Vincent 38-28 and had the ground ball advantage 33-22

Notables

  • Senior Chad Calderwood (Portland, Ore./Episcopal) won 8 of 14 in faceoffs on the day, extending his school record to 428 for his career.
  • He also has the career ground balls record with 199.
  • The Polar Bears improve to 8-2 all-time in their season openers.
  • Head coach Nat St.Laurent is in his tenth season at Ohio Northern with a 93-48 record and has a winning percentage of .659.
