Men's Lacrosse remains in first place in OAC, moves to 5-1 in league play with 13-1 victory over Marietta

ADA — The Ohio Northern men's lacrosse team remained in a 3-way tie on top of the Ohio Athletic Conference standings with a 13-1 victory over Marietta on a sunny and windy Saturday afternoon at Kerscher Stadium.
The Basics
- Records: Ohio Northern (10-4 overall, 5-1 OAC), Marietta (7-6 overall, 4-2 OAC).

The Game
- Ohio Northern scored the first nine goals of the game and held Marietta scoreless for the first 46:11 of the contest.
- Senior Aidan Dempsey (Silver Spring, Md./St. John's College) and sophomore Colin Willits (West Chester/Lakota West) each had five points on three goals and two assists to lead ONU.
- Northern led 4-0 after the first period and 9-0 at halftime.
- Neither team scored in the third quarter and the Polar Bears scored the final four goals in the last 9:37 of the contest.
- Fifth-year senior Cole Zaferakis (Liverpool, N.Y.) stopped both of the shots on goal he faced in 41:07 of action.
- Dempsey and senior Andrew Reimer (Lancaster, N.Y.) each had four ground balls.

- The Polar Bears entered the game in a 5-way tie atop the OAC standings with a 4-1 league mark and are now tied with John Carroll and Baldwin Wallace with 5-1 records.
- Dempsey now ranks fifth all-time in ONU history with 130 points in his career. He ranks third with 91 career goals and is fifth with 40 assists.
- He also leads the team in scoring this season with 34 goals, 12 assists and 46 points.
- In all, 26 different Polar Bears have scored goals this season with five more adding at least one assist.
- Senior Chad Calderwood (Portland, Ore./Episcopal) went 4-for-7 on faceoffs on the day, extending his school record to 390 for his career.
- Senior Sebastian Michaud (Springboro) had one goals and is sixth at ONU with 68 career goals, is seventh with 30 assists and is sixth with 98 points.
- Fifth-year senior Riley O'Neal (Dumfries, Va./Forest Park) is fifth sixth 38 career assists.
- Zafarakis holds the ONU career records for saves (557), wins (46) and goalie minutes played (3,532).
- ONU now leads the all-time series with MC by an 5-0 margin, which includes a 3-0 mark at home.
- Head coach Nat St.Laurent is in his ninth season at Ohio Northern with an 89-46 record and has a winning percentage of .659.
- The game was initially scheduled to be played at Marietta, but was moved due to heavy flooding at Marietta.
- The game was played at Kerscher Stadium on the ONU campus as Dial-Roberson Stadium was hosting the originally scheduled women's lacrosse contest between Ohio Northern and Marietta at the same time.
