Men's Lacrosse gets back into win column with convincing 13-4 victory at Otterbein

WESTERVILLE — The Ohio Northern men's lacrosse team got a 3-goal hat trick from freshman Mitchel Luck (Linden, Mich.) and turned in an outstanding defensive performance in a 13-4 victory at Otterbein on Wednesday evening
The Basics
- Records: Ohio Northern (7-4 overall, 2-1 OAC), Otterbein (4-5 overall, 1-2 OAC).
- Venue: Memorial Stadium - Westerville, Ohio.
The Game
- Senior Aidan Dempsey (Silver Spring, Md./St. John's College) had a goal and two assists for three points and fifth-year senior Cole Zaferakis (Liverpool, N.Y.) had eight saves in goal to lead the Polar Bears.
- Northern scored eight of the game's first nine goals to lead 8-1 with 10:45 left in the third quarter.
- OU scored three consecutive times to get within 8-4 with 3:37 left in the third, but senior Andrew Caliri (Lexington, Mass.) scored with 2:31 left in the quarter to send ONU into the final period ahead 9-4.
- The Polar Bears put the game away as four different players scored in the first 10:32 minutes to extend the lead to 13-4 with 4:28 left in the game.
- In all, nine different Ohio Northern players accounted for the team's 13 goals.
- ONU out-shot OU 48-25.
Notables
- Dempsey now ranks fifth all-time in ONU history with 116 points in his career. He ranks fourth with 81 career goals and is sixth with 36 assists.
- He also leads the team in scoring this season with 24 goals and 32 points.
- In all, 22 different Polar Bears have scored goals this season with six more adding at least one assist.
- Senior Chad Calderwood (Portland, Ore./Episcopal) won 10-of-15 faceoffs on the day, extending his school record to 372 for his career.
- Senior Sebastian Michaud (Springboro) is sixth at ONU with 65 career goals, is seventh with 30 assists and is sixth with 95 points.
- Fifth-year senior Riley O'Neal (Dumfries, Va./Forest Park) is fifth with 38 career assists.
- Zafarakis holds the ONU career records for saves (549), wins (42) and goalie minutes played (3,407).
- ONU now leads the all-time series with OU by a 7-3 margin, which includes a 2-2 mark at Westerville.
- Head coach Nat St.Laurent is in his ninth season at Ohio Northern with an 86-46 record and has a winning percentage of .652.
