Lynn's late goal lifts Men's Lacrosse past Brockport State (N.Y.) 13-12 in overtime thriller

ADA — Senior John Lynn (Cincinnati/Sycamore) scored with 50 seconds gone in overtime to lift the Ohio Northern men's lacrosse team to a 13-12 victory at Brockport State (N.Y.) on Saturday afternoon.

- Senior Aidan Dempsey (Silver Spring, Md./St. John's College) had three of his team-high four goals in the first half as the Polar Bears led 8-7 at intermission.
- Lynn also finished with four points on his three-goal hat trick and one assist.
- Senior Andrew Caliri (Lexington, Mass.) added two goals for ONU.
- Senior Cole Zaferakis (Liverpool, N.Y.) had 10 saves in goal on 22 shots on goal to earn his 39th career victory for the visitors.
- Senior Chad Calderwood (Portland, Ore./Episcopal) won 6-of-19 faceoffs on the day, giving him a school record 318 for his career. He broke the previous record of 316 set by William Peoples from 2016-19.
- Northern jumped to a 5-2 lead with 2:59 left in the opening period, only to see the Eagles score the next three goals to tie it at 5-5 early in the second.
- Neither team led by more than two goals as the squads were nearly even the rest of the way.
- Freshman Mitchel Luck (Linden, Mich.) gave ONU a 12-11 lead with 13:05 left in the game, but BSU tied it 33 seconds later at 12-12.
- Neither team could find the net the rest of regulation.
- Northern won the faceoff to start overtime and Lynn got the game-winner 51 seconds into the possession.
- Ohio Northern forced brockport into 19 turnovers while committing only four. Each team had 33 shots.
Notables
- Dempsey becomes just the fifth Polar Bear in school history to reach the 100-points plateau and now has 103 for his career. He ranks fourth with 71 career goals and is sixth with 32 assists.
- Senior Sebastian Michaud (Springboro) is tied for sixth at ONU with 58 career goals, is ninth with 26 assists and is seventh with 84 points.
- The Polar Bears are now 1-1 on the road this season.
- Head coach Nat St.Laurent is in his ninth season at Ohio Northern with an 83-42 record and has a winning percentage of .664.
