UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS — Sophomore Sebastian Michaud (Springboro) scored twice to lead the Ohio Northern men's lacrosse team in a 14-6 loss at John Carroll in a battle of Ohio Athletic Conference unbeatens on Friday afternoon at Don Shula Stadium.
The Polar Bears (9-3 overall, 5-1 OAC) saw their winning streak end at six games, while the Blue Streaks won their sixth straight game to improve to 12-1, 6-0.
The score was tied at 1-all 13 minutes into the contest when JCU scored three goals in a 4-minute span to take a 4-1 lead.
The two teams traded goals for the next quarter and a half until the Blue Streaks scored five straight over a 15:19 span to increase its lead to 12-4 with 6:14 remaining in the game.
Senior Ben Gawronski (Dublin/Scioto) and sophomore John Lynn (Cincinnati/Sycamore) scored to get ONU within 12-6 with 1:45 to go, but JCU would score twice just 17 seconds apart to ice the game.
JCU out-shot ONU 539-31 and won the ground ball battle 26-20.
Junior Cole Zaferakis (Liverpool, N.Y.) had 11 saves in goal for Ohio Northern.
The Polar Bears will return to action on Wednesday when they play host to Heidelberg at 7 p.m. at Dial-Roberson Stadium.
