WESTERVILLE — Five different players scored two goals apiece to lead the Ohio Northern men's lacrosse team to a 14-10 victory Wednesday night at Otterbein in Memorial Stadium.
With the win, the Polar Bears improve to 8-2 overall and 4-0 in the Ohio Athletic Conference and the Cardinals fall to 4-6, 2-2.
Senior Ben Gawronski (Dublin Scioto), junior Alex Reimer (Lancaster, N.Y.) and sophomores Andrew Caliri (Lexington, Mass.), John Lynn (Cincinnati/Sycamore), and Sebastian Michaud (Springboro) led the ONU scoring atttack with two goals each, and Reimer added two assists to lead the team in points.
Junior Cole Zaferakis (Liverpool, N.Y.) earned his eighth win in net allowing 10 goals while earning 7 saves.
ONU held an early lead 7-3 with 9:55 remaining in the first half, but the Cardinals used a 5-0 run to close the half and take the lead 8-7.
Northern responded by scoring the only four goals of the third quarter to take an 11-8 lead into the fourth quarter.
The Cardinals closed the lead to 11-10 with 8:31 remaining, but the Polar Bears scored the last three goals to secure the victory.
ONU out-shot OU 42-34 and won the battle of the ground balls 31-27.
Ohio Northern will return for a home to host Marietta at 1 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.
