Weese and Marous lead Men's Lacrosse in 13-8 victory over Mount Union

ALLIANCE -- Sophomore Max Weese (Columbus/Hilliard Darby) and freshman Cameron Marous (Brecksville) led the Ohio Northern men's lacrosse team as it opened Ohio Athletic Conference play with a 13-8 victory over Mount Union in Alliance.
The Polar Bears improve to 6-3 overall, and 1-0 in the OAC, while the Purple Raiders fall to 5-3, 1-1.
Weese scored four goals to lead Northern offensively, while Marous added three goals and two assists for ONU.
Marous scored the first goal of the contest at the 12:08 mark of the first quarter as sophomore Anthony Pavone (Chagrin Falls/Kenston) set the goal up to help Northern take a 1-0 advantage.
Mount Union answered at the 10:10 mark of the first quarter to knot the contest at 1-1.
Back-to-back goals by sophomore Drew Eramo (Hilliard/Bishop Ready) and Pavone pushed the lead to 3-1 with 8:23 left in the first quarter.
After MtU answered with a goal of their own, Weese scored his first goal of the contest at the 2:49 mark to push the lead to 4-2.
With 10 seconds remaining in the period, Pavone scored his second goal of the contest to give Northern a 5-2 lead heading into the second period.
Northern would score the first five goals of the second period to take a commanding 10-2 lead in the second quarter.
Weese scored the first two goals of the period, before Marous capitalized on an assist from sophomore Nicholas Groves (Fishers, Ind./Chatard), and sophomore Mitch Groves (Fishers, Ind./Chatard) and freshman John Mullin (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) each scored to give ONU a 10-2 advantage.
After Mount Union scored three goals to pull within 10-5, Weese scored his fourth goal of the afternoon in the third period, before Marous completed his Hat Trick at the 3:47 mark of the third quarter to extend the lead to 12-5.
MtU was able to tack on one more goal in the third period to close the gap to 12-6 heading into the final period.
Eramo opened the fourth period up with a goal at the 14:13 off of a Marous assist to extend Northern's lead to 13-6.
The Purple Raiders would add two more goals but could not manage to get any closer as ONU went on to win 13-8.
Northern won 14 faceoffs and won the gound ball battle by a 36-20 margin.
The Polar Bears will return to action Wednesday, Apr. 5 as it hosts Wilmington at Dial-Roberson Stadium at 7 pm.
