Dennison wins Medalist honors as Men's Golf opens spring schedule with third place finish at Muskingum Invitational

ZANESVILLE - The Ohio Northern men's golf team opened up its spring schedule with a third place finish at the Muskingum Invitational Sunday and Monday.
The Basics
- Ohio Northern finished third of six teams with a 44-over par 308-296—604 for 36 holes on the par-70, 6508-yard course.
- Otterbein won the team title with a 294-295—589, Marietta was second with a 299-300—599, Capital was fourth with a 312-299—611, Baldwin Wallace was fifth with a 301-312—613 and Muskingum was sixth with a 312-307—619,
- ONU Season Record: 31-28.
- Venue: Eaglesticks G.C. - Zanesville, Ohio.
ONU Individuals
- Junior Bennett Christy (Plymouth, Ind.) was 10th of 48 golfers with an 80-68—148 to lead the Polar Bears.
- Playing on the ONU "B" team, junior Evan Dennison (Ashland/Mapleton) won Medalist honors with a 3-under par 71-72—143.
- His 143 broke his previous career low 36-hole score by a full 13 strokes.
- Freshman Ian Briars (Maumee/Anthony Wayne) tied for 11th with a 75-74—149.
- Senior Andrew Briars (Maumee/Anthony Wayne) tied for 19th with a 77-76—153.
- Junior Joey DeSimone (Munroe Falls/Stow-Munroe Falls) tied for 26th with a 76-79—155.
- Freshman Gordon Kopmeyer (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./St. Mary's) carded an 81-78—159 to finish tied for 33rd.
Notables
- Christy's 2-under par 68 in the second round was the fifth-lowest score in ONU history and was just one shot off the school record of 67 set on three separate occasions.
- Dennison tied for first, then won Medalist honors for the first time in his career with a pr on the first hole.
- This was the first of five tournaments for Ohio Northern this spring prior to the OAC Championships May 2-4.
- The teams played 18 holes each day.
- The Polar Bears were fourth after Day 1 with a 308.
- ONU head coach Chad Bucci is 409-400-16 in his 12th season at the helm of the men's program, a winning percentage of .505.
