Men's Golf sets 36-hole record with a 586 at DePauw (Ind.) Spring Clash

NOBLESVILLE, Ind. — The Ohio Northern men's golf team broke the school's 36-hole record with a 26-over par 287-299—586 to finish sixth of six teams at the DePauw (Ind.) Spring Clash on Sunday.
The Basics
- #15-ranked Wittenberg won the team title with a 286-280—566, DePauw was second at 285-285—570, Rose-Hulman (Ind.) was third with a 281-297—578, Wabash (Ind.) was fourth with a 290-289—579 and Transylvania (Ky.) was fifth with a 288-292—580.
- ONU Record: 43-30-3.
- Venue: Pebble Brook G.C. - Noblesville, Ind.
ONU Individuals
- Freshman Aashir Patel (Schaumburg, Ill./Conant) finished in an 8-way tie for fifth out of 58 golfers over the par-70, 6448-yard course with a 3-over par 69-74—143.
- Sophomore Bennett Christy (Plymouth, Ind.) tied for 13th with a 70-74—144.
- Sophomore Joey DeSimone (Munroe Falls/Stow-Munroe Falls) tied for 21st with a 69-78—147.
- Freshman Ben Fantaci (Miamisburg/Kettering Fairmont) tied for 33rd with a 79-75—154.
- Sophomore Domenic Pilla (Highland Heights/Saint Ignatius) carded an 80-76—156 to tie for 38th.
Notables
- The previous school record was a 30-over par 590 at the Muskingum Spring Invitational in 2012.
- Northern's first round 287 (7-over par) was just one shot off the school record 2-under par 286 set at the 2012 Mount Union Fall Invitational.
- Patel and DeSimone tied for the fifth-lowest round in school history with their 69s.
- The players played all 36 holes on Sunday.
- ONU head coach Chad Bucci is 360-351-15 in his 11th season at the helm of the men's program, a winning percentage of .507.
