Patel fires 3-under par 68 as Men's Golf moves up two spots into tie for fifth place on second day of Polar Beaver Invitational

BEAVERDAM — Freshman Aashir Patel (Schaumburg, Ill./Conant) fired a 3-under par 68 to lead the Ohio Northern men's golf team on the final day of the Polar Beaver Invitational on a sunny Saturday.
The Basics
- The Polar Bears carded a 12-over par 296 after a 312 on Friday to finish tied for fifth of 11 teams with a 36-hole total of 608.
- Franklin (Ind.) leads the team standings with a 291, Spalding (Ky.) is second with a 293 and Ohio Wesleyan is third with a 299.
- The Ohio Northern "B" team carded a 308 and would be in fourth place.
- ONU Record: 40-24-3.

- Patel finished tied for sixth place out of 81 golfers with a 3-over par 78-68—146, which ties him for the 10th-lowest 36-hole score in program history.
- Sophomore Joey DeSimone (Munroe Falls/Stow-Munroe Falls) tied for 19th with a 78-73—151.
- Sophomore Bennett Christy (Plymouth, Ind.) tied for 35th with a 77-78—155.
- Sophomore Ben Fantaci (Miamisburg/Kettering Fairmont) tied for 45th with a 79-79—158 and junior Andrew Briars (Maumee/Anthony Wayne) tied for 49th with an 82-77—159.
- Playing on ONU's "B" team, sophomore Aidan Chandler (Ashland) tied for 21st overall with a 77-75—152.
Notables
- Patel's 68 was the second-lowest score in ONU history, just one shot behind the 67s by Andrew Rahrig in 2007 and Zach Goodchild in 2018.
- The tournament was played alongside the women's version, with ONU hosting the men's first round and women's second round at Colonial G.C.
- Tournament co-host Bluffton hosedt the women's first round and the men's second round at Hidden Creek G.C. near Beaverdam.
- Each tournament was 36 holes.
- Hidden Creek played to a par of 71 over 6,587 yards on Saturday.
