Men's Golf finishes tied for second of 14 teams at Olivet (Mich.) Memorial Tournament

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — The Ohio Northern men's golf team shot a final-round 301 on Saturday to finish tied for second at the two-day Olivet (Mich.) Lou Collins Memorial Tournament to open its 2023 fall season.

Results
- The Polar Bears shot a 304-301—605 to finish 29 over par and tie NAIA school Lourdes for second place behind tournament champion Calvin (Mich.), which finished with a 298-294—592.
- The Polar Bears closed Friday's first round in second place, trailing Calvin by six strokes.
- Trine (Ind.) shot a two-day 607 and Huntington (Ind.) shot a 618 to round out the top five teams.
ONU Individuals
- Sophomore Joey DeSimone (Munroe Falls/Stow-Munroe Falls) shot a 72-76—148 to lead the Polar Bears and finish tied for second of 96 golfers. His first-round 72 and 36-hole total are both career bests. He trailed tournament medalist Matt Turcotte, of Calvin, by two strokes.
- Freshman Aashir Patel (Schaumburg, Ill./James B Conant) shot a 79-71—150 to finish tied for seventh in his first career collegiate tournament.
- Sophomore Anthony Naso (Grosse Ile, Mich.) tied for ninth with a 76-75—151.
- Sophomore Austin Hanni-Wells (Findlay/Liberty-Benton) tied for 30th with a 77-79—156. His 36-hole score is a career best.
- Playing on the ONU B team, junior David Walsh (Cincinnati/Moeller) and sophomores Jevin Beard (Ostrander/River Valley) and Domenic Pilla (Highland Heights/St. Ignatius) also shot a two-round 156 to tie for 30th overall. Beard's first-round 77 was a career-best for 18 holes, and Pilla's 156 was a career-best for 36 holes.
