Tyler Davis fires a 2-under par 69, leads Men's Golf to top spot on Day 1 of Defiance Spring Invitational

DEFIANCE — Sophomore Tyler Davis became the fourth Ohio Northern men's golfer to break 70, leading the Polar Bears to the top spot after the first round of the Defiance Spring Invitational on Saturday at Eagle Rock Golf Course.
ONU (36-16 overall) carded a team score of 296, which tied for the fifth-lowest in school history.
Northern leads the 5-team field with Hanover (Ind.) second with a 300, Tiffin third with a 305 and Defiance fourth with a 307.
Davis fired a 2-under par 69 to lead the 40-man field.
Freshman Zach Goodchild is tied for third with a 74, sophomore Blaine Ricketts is tied for 10th and junior Rick Deichert it tied for 16th with a 78 for ONU.
Playing as an individual, senior Ryan Wirtz is tied for seventh with a 74.
The second and final round is Sunday, with an expected start time of 9:30 am.
