Men's Golf finishes fifth at Mount Union Fall Invitational

ALLIANCE — Sophomore Colin Burns fired an 8-over par 150 to lead the Ohio Northern men's golf team to a fifth place finish at the Mount Union Fall Invitational Sunday at Tannenhauf Golf Course and Monday at the Alliance Country Club.

The Polar Bears (21-7-2) tied for fifth place out of eight teams with a 313-303—616.

Point Park (Pa.) won the team title with a 301-291—592, Otterbein was second with a 300-300—600 and Mount Union was third with a 304-302—606.

Burns opened play with a 3-over par 75 at the 6694-yard, par-72 Tannenhauf Golf Course on Sunday, then finished with a 5-over par 75 on the 6411-yard, par-70 Alliance Country Club on Monday.

Burns finished tied for sixth out of 73 golfers.

Senior Phillip Caffee tied for 20th with a 78-76—154, sophomore Angelo Palmer tied for 35th with a 79-78—175, sophomore Ryan Wirtz tied for 39th with an 81-77—158 and junior Travis Ballinger tied for 39th with an 83-75—158.

Austin Elder of Point Park took Medalist honors with a 73-70—143.

The Polar Bears will wrap up their 2011 fall schedule Saturday and Sunday at the Wittenberg Invitational.
