Men's Bowling finishes 17th of 19 in first-ever contest at Ohio Bowling Conference I tournament

COLUMBUS — The Ohio Northern men's bowling team finished 17th of 19 teams in its inaugural season opener on Saturday at the Ohio Bowling League I tournament at Palace Lanes.
The Basics
- Ohio Northern finished 17th of 19 teams with 5,634 pins in five rounds of regular games and 12 baker games during the day.
- Venue: Columbus Square Palace Lanes — Columbus, Ohio.
- Team points will be announced next week.
The Tournament
- ONU knocked down 5,634 pins and defeated Miami (5384) and Baldwin Wallace (4484).
- Freshman Nolan Caban (Dayton/Centerville) led ONU by knocking down 857 pins in five games, an average of 171.4 pins per game.
- Freshman Lukas Dunbar (Orient/Teays Valley) had 680 pins in four games, an average of 170.0 ppg. He also had the team's high game for the tournament with a 246.
- Freshman Henry Zitzelberger (Chillicothe/Zane Trace) averaged 160.0 pins in four games, knocking down 640 pins.
- Senior Alex Sommers (Carlisle) averaged 136.0 pins per game with 544 pins in four games.
- Northwestern Ohio won the team title with 7,038 pins, Muskingum was second with 6,967 pins and Robert Morris was third with 6,955 pins.
- Matthew Hanson of Robert Morris won the individual title with 1,097 pins in five games, an average os 219.4 ppg.
Notables
- The first ball rolled in school history was by Alex Sommers, and was a strike.
- This is the first of 5 OBC tournaments this season.
- ONU had 3,806 pins in the five rounds of individual games, an average of 152.2 pins per game.
- The Polar Bears knocked down 1,558 pins in the 12 baker games, an average of 129.8 ppg.
- First-year head coach Jeff Robinson leads the Polar Bears.
