ADA — Ohio Northern men's basketball team defated 76-61 despite comeback in 2nd half  by Mount Union on Saturday afternoon in an Ohio Athletic Conference showdown. 

The Basics

  • Records: Ohio Northern (9-6 overall, 3-4 OAC), Mount Union (10-5 overall, 7-1 OAC).
  • Venue: ONU Sports Center - Ada, Ohio.

The Game

  • Sophomore Theo Maag (Ottawa/Ottawa-Glandorf) led the Polar Bears with 13 points and brought in 7 rebounds   
  • Sophmore J.J. Morris (Culver, Ind./Argos) added a career high 11 points of the bench.
  • Sophomore Jadi Cunningham Jr. (Westerville/South) pitched in 9 points and had 3 steals.
  • Senior Blake Michael (Fremont/St. Joseph Central Catholic) added 8 points. 
  • Christian Parker led the Raiders with 23 points.
  • Mount Union would grow a large lead after an 18-3 run to take a 32-11 lead with just 6:26 left to go in the first half. 
  • With 2:03 remaining Northern would trail by 19, they would then go on a 8-0 to close out the half. 
  • With 2:08 gone in the 2nd half an and-one made jumper by Cunningham Jr. would cut the lead of Mount Union to 41-33.
  • A 3-pointer by junior Will Miller (Ottoville) got Ohio Northern within 59-54 with 9:20 remaining to play. 
  • Ohio Northern would keep the game close until Mount Union would get hot and close out the last 5:23 of the game out on a 11-2 run.
  • Ohio Northern was 23-of-71 from the floor for 32.4 percent and made 9-of-30 three-pointers for 30.0 percent, while Mount Union finished 27-of-49 from the field for 55.1 percent and 4-of-14 from three-point range for 28.6 percent.
  • ONU made 6-of-10 free throws for 60.0 percent and MU was 18-of-25 from the foul line for 72.0 percent.
  • The Raiders out rebounded the Polar Bears 45-33.
