Men's Basketball falls 103-102 on Marietta buzzer-beater in double overtime

MARIETTA — The Ohio Northern men's basketball team fell 103-102 at Marietta on Saturday afternoon in a tightly contested Ohio Athletic Conference game that ended with the Pioneers' Jayden Bradshaw making a 3-pointer with less than a second remaining in double overtime.

The Game
- Sophomore Will Miller (Ottoville) made five 3-pointers and led ONU with 27 points to go with seven rebounds.
- Freshman Carter Reese (Westerville/North) made a trio of 3-pointers and had 25 points and five rebounds.
- Freshman Cayden Jacoby (Pettisville) finished with 19 points and a team-high nine rebounds, and freshman Jadi Cunningham Jr. (Columbus/Westerville South) had a double-double with 11 points and 10 assists to go with four rebounds.
- Marietta had five double-figure scorers led by 18 points each from Bradshaw and David Sanford.
- The Pioneers led by as many as 12 points in the game, taking a 19-7 edge with 13:01 left in the opening half.
- A 2-point jumper from Miller got ONU back within one, 25-24, with 4:59 left before halftime.
- Marietta continued to lead, going up 40-30 on a 3-pointer with 1:39 remaining in the opening half and taking a 40-32 edge into halftime.
- A 3-pointer from senior Carson Conley (Newark/Licking Valley) got ONU back within one, 48-47, with 16:04 left in regulation, and Miller tied the score at 68-all on a 2-point jumper with 5:26 remaining.
- Northern held a 74-73 lead with just under a minute remaining but trailed 78-76 with 22 seconds left.
- After being fouled on a 3-point attempt with four seconds left, Reese went 2-for-3 from the foul line to tie the score at 78-all and force overtime.
- Trailing 87-84 in the first overtime period, ONU tied the score on a 3-pointer from Reese with 28 seconds left, ultimately sending the game to a second overtime.
- Reese put ONU up 98-93 with a 3-pointer with 2:35 remaining in the second overtime, but the Pioneers fought back to tie the score at 100-all with 16 seconds left.
- Northern regained the lead at 102-100 courtesy of a 2-point jumper from Reese with just three seconds left.
- After a timeout, the Marietta offense created a 3-point shot attempt for Bradshaw, who connected with 0.5 seconds left for the winning score.
- Ohio Northern made 39-of-75 field goal attempts for 52%, including an 11-of-27 mark from 3-point range for 40.7%.
- Marietta was 35-of-77 shooting for 45.5% and made 10-of-33 3-pointers for 30.3%.

Notables
- Miller's 27 points marked a single-game career high, besting his previous mark of 24, which he tallied against Kenyon earlier this season on Nov. 18. He has now scored in double figures in six games this season.
- Reese matched his single-game career high with 25 points, which he also tallied against Heidelberg on Dec. 6. He now has seven double-figure scoring games this season.
- Jacoby's 19 points marked a single-game career high. His previous high was 12, which he scored on two occasions earlier this season. He has scored in double figures in five games this season.
- Cunningham Jr. recorded his sixth double-figure scoring game of the season and his first career double-double with his single-game career high 10 assists.
- Ohio Northern is now 59-47 all-time against Marietta, which includes a 27-28 mark on the road. Marietta has won 13 straight meetings dating back to 2019.
