Waugh scores 25 as Men's Basketball falls 91-85 in 2OT at Baldwin Wallace

BEREA — Senior Brandon Waugh (Columbus/Northland) scored a season-high 25 points as the Ohio Northern men's basketball team fell 91-85 in double overtime at Baldwin Wallace on Wednesday night at Ursprung Gymnasium.
With the loss, the Polar Bears fall to 8-12 overall and 2-11 in the Ohio Athletic Conference and the Yellow Jackets improve to 12-8, 7-6.
Waugh and junior C.J. Napier (Miamisburg/Bishop Fenwick) earned double-doubles with Waugh tallying 25 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists for his third double-double on the season, and Napier scored 14 points and had 13 rebounds for his sixth double-double of the season.
Junior Adam Scott (Wapakoneta) added 20 points for ONU.
Baldwin Wallace's Anthony Mazzeo led all scorers with 28 points.
Trailing 64-53 with 6:08 remaining in regulation, the Polar Bears went on a 14-0 run to regain the lead 65-64 on a layup by junior Michael Berner (Springboro) and then added to their lead with Waugh making two free throws with 42 seconds remaining.
The Yellow Jackets tied the game on a 3-pointer by Jake Snyder with 14 ticks to go.
Waugh missed a layup as the horn sounded, sending the game to overtime.
Scott made a pair of free throws to give ONU a 77-74 lead with 22 seconds remaining in the first overtime.
BW's Jake Snyder made 1-of-2 free throws with six seconds remaining and then two free throws with one tick left to force a second overtime.
The Yellow Jackets started the second overtime on an 8-1 run to take an 85-78 lead with 1:47 remaining en route to the victory.
Ohio Northern made 31-of-80 field goals for 38.8% and was 7-of-27 from 3-point range for 25.9%, while Baldwin Wallace made 34-of-77 field goals for 44.2% and was 11-of-28 from beyond the arc for 39.3%.
ONU was 16-for-19 for 84.2% at the foul line and BW shot 12-for-21 for 57.1%.
The Polar Bears led the rebounding battle by a 50-48 margin.
Ohio Northern travels to OAC foe John Carroll on Saturday for a 4 p.m. tip-off as part of a women's-men's doubleheader.
