CINCINNATI — Junior Ryan Bruns (Chickasaw/Marion Local) had a double-double with 21 points and a season-high 14 rebounds to lead the Ohio Northern men's basketball team to an 87-48 victory over Case Western Reserve on Sunday afternoon at the Harrington Center as part of the Mt. St. Joseph Tip-Off Classic.
The Polar Bears (2-1 overall) also got 17 points from senior Nate Burger (Dayton/Alter) and a career-high 14 points from freshman Brandon Waugh (Columbus/Northland in the victory.
The Spartans fall to 1-4 overall.
Northern used a 10-0 run to grab a 33-20 lead late in the first half and led 44-26 at halftime.
In the second half, Case would get within 47-35, but ONU answered with a 12-3 run to go up 59-38 with 10:40 to go and would not be threatened the rest of the way.
Ohio Northern made 30-of-68 field goals for 44.1 percent and were 9-of-21 from 3-point range for 42.9 percent, while Case was 12-of-52 from the floor for 23.1 percent but made 8-of-27 threes for 29.6 percent.
ONU out-rebounded CWR 52-33.
The Polar Bears will return to action on Wednesday when they host Alma (Mich.) at 8 pm at the ONU Sports Center as part of a women's-men's double header that night.
