Junior Aron Thress scores career-high 28 points to lead Men's Basketball in loss to No. 4 John Carroll

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS -- Despite a career-high 28 points from junior Aron Thress, the Ohio Northern men's basketball team dropped an 84-73 decision to No. 4-ranked John Carroll Saturday afternoon at the DeCarlo Varsity Center.
The Polar Bears fall to 8-11 overall and 5-7 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Blue Streaks improved to 19-0, 12-0.
As well as his game-high and career-high 28 points, Thress also pulled down a game-high nine rebounds to lead Northern.
Sophomore Travis Feitshans added 12 points and six rebounds on the afternoon, while junior Joey Hurless posted a game-high five assists.
David Linane led John Carroll with 21 points.
After falling behind 13-8 early on, Northern responded with a quick 8-0 run after back-to-back three pointers from Feitshans and sophomore Joey DiOrio and took a 16-13 lead with 11:48 remaining in the first half.
Northern would once again find themselves in a hole late in the first half before a 13-2 run sparked by six points from Thress would give them 37-34 advantage with 3:15 remaining in the first half.
From there, JCU would close the half out on a 13-6 run to take a 47-43 lead into the intermission.
ONU would tie the game at 59-all after a steal from junior Devon Allen led to a jumper from Thress with 13:10 remaining in the contest.
John Carroll would respond with a 9-0 run to push its lead to 68-59 with 9:18 remaining in the contest.
Ohio Northern was able to close the gap to seven after a layup from Thress made it 68-61 with 8:32 remaining, but was not enough as JCU went on to win the contest.
The Polar Bears shot 30-of-65 (46.2 percent) from the field, including 7-of-25 (28.0 percent) from beyond the arc, while John Carroll shot 27-of-70 (38.6 percent) from the field and 9-of-22 (40.9 percent) from the three point line.
Northern will return to action Wednesday evening at 7:30 pm as they welcome Wilmington to the ONU Sports Center.
