GRANVILLE — Junior Devon Allen scored 16 points and junior Joey Hurless dished out 13 assists but the Ohio Northern men's basketball team dropped a 79-67 decision at Denison Wednesday night at Livingston Gymnasium.
The Polar Bears fall to 5-6 on the season, while the Big Red improve to 6-4.
Junior Aron Thress added 13 points and freshman Ryan Bruns chipped in 11 points and seven rebounds for ONU.
DU was led by Matthew Bauer with 16 points and 12 rebounds and Jett Speelman with 16 points.
Allen converted a 4-point play with 10:14 to play to give the Polar Bears a 56-53 lead.
But the Big Red would go on a 17-2 run to grab a 70-58 lead with 3:47 left in the game.
Du led 38-33 at halftime and extended that advantage to 43-35 before ONU stormed back to grab the lead on Allen's 3-pointer and free throw.
Ohio Northern made 27-of-59 field goal attempts for 45.8 percent and was 6-of-16 from 3-point range for 37.5 percent, but made just 7-of-16 free throws for 43.8 percent.
Denison was 27-of-69 from the floor for 39.12 percent and was 11-of-31 from 3-point range for 35.5 percent.
DU out-rebounded ONU 45-38.
The Polar Bears will return to action Saturday when they host Trine (Ind.) at 2 pm at the ONU Sports Center.
