Football drops decision at Marietta in battle of league unbeatens

MARIETTA — Ohio Northern fell 45-10 at Marietta in a battle of league football unbeatens on a beautiful Saturday afternoon at Don Drumm Stadium.

- Junior Louie Blasiole (Mantua/Crestwood) ran 17 times for 42 yards for ONU.
- Sophomore Seth Borondy (Bellbrook) ran 12 times for 31 yards
- Sophomore Jordan Pettaway (Oregon/Clay) ran 11 times for 30 yards and a touchdown.
- Freshman Amir Collings (Plantation, Fla./Flanagan) was 15-for-30 passing for 115 yards in his first career start.
- Marietta took advantage of two bad punt snaps to score a pair of touchdowns.
- The first gave MC a short field and led to a 7-0 lead with 5:57 left in the opening period.
- After an interception, the Pioneers got a 50-yard run from Vante' Hodges to go up 14-0 with 5:13 left in the first.
- Senior Jonmichael Elliott (Richmond, Va./Clover Hill) made a 20-yard field goal with 1:07 left in the half to make it 17-3 at intermission.
- A 14-yard TD pass gave MC a 24-7 lead 2:25 into the second half.
- A second bad punt snap was picked up for a 12-yard scoop and score and is was 31-10 with 9:40 left in the third.
- Sophomore Jacob Hershberger (Lima/Allen East) had a 41-yard pick-6 to get ONU within 31-10 with 3:58 left in the third.
- Defensively, Hershberger, junior Myles Aldrich (Lima/Shawnee) and junior A.J. DeSousa (DeBary, Fla./University) each had nine tackles.
- The Pioneers out-gained the Polar Bears in total offense 359-144.
