Football opens home slate with 40-7 victory over Capital

ADA — Ohio Northern opened the Ohio Athletic Conference and home portion of its schedule with a 40-7 victory over Capital on a beautiful Saturday afternoon at Dial-Roberson Stadium.

- Senior Brennon Norris (Stuebenville/Indian Creek) completed 22-of-30 passes for 253 yards and 4 touchdowns for ONU.
- Senior Jamir Nunley (Cleveland/Mayfield) rushed 14 times for 65 yards.
- Senior L.J. Payton (Wheelersburg) caught 7 passes for 91 yards and 3 TDs and senior Jordan Dean (Euclid/Villa Angela-Saint Joseph) caught 7 passes for 70 yards and a score.
- Ben Everson led CU by completing 10-of-22 passes for 163 yards and ran 13 times for 31 yards and a TD.
- The Polar Bears outgained the Comets 407-265 in total offense.
- Defensively, sophomore Myles Aldrich (Lima/Shawnee) had a career-high 12 tackles for Ohio Northern.
- CU led 7-3 after one quarter, but ONU rallied to lead 20-7 at halftime and 33-7 after three quarters.
Notables
- The Polar Bears are now 14-6 in home openers at Dial-Roberson Stadium.
- Dean Paul is in his 20th season as a Polar Bear and has a 118-72 career record at ONU.
- ONU leads the all-time series with CU by a 45-25-1 margin, including a 7-3 mark at Dial-Roberson Stadium.
- Senior Josh Bever (Ashland) now has 33 career sacks, just 10 behind the school record of 43 set by All-American and 10-year NFL veteran Jason Trusnik from 2002-06.
