Eight Polar Bears named Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference in Football for 2013

ADA — Eight Ohio Northern student/athletes were named Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference in football for the 2013 season.
Seniors Josh Bryan, Nick Hovis, Mike King and Jacob Schumer, juniors Patrick Angle and Kevin Rahill and sophomores Matt Chaney and Connor Devine all received the honor.
The award winners must be a sophomore or higher in class standing, maintain varsity status and have a cumulative grade-point-average of at least 3.50.
Bryan is a two-time Academic all-OAC honoree and started all 10 games at safety this season.
He ranked second on the team with 64 tackles this fall and tied for team-high honors with four interceptions on the year.
Hovis was a role player in his four-year career on the defensive line, playing in seven games with one tackle.
King is a three-year starter at defensive tackle, starting 26 games, and played in 39 games in his career.
He is a two-time Academic All-OAc honoree and finished his career with 100 tackles, 21 tackles for loss and 7.5 sacks.
Schumer was a three-year member of the Polar Bear football team as a reserve on the offensive line.
He saw action and was on the 2-deep at left tackle for the last two games of the season.
Angle started all 10 games at quarterback this season after transferring from Youngstown State.
He completed 172-of-276 passes for 16 touchdowns and 1,979 yards with just six interceptions and had a quarterback rating of 137.33.
Angle also had 158 yards rushing with two touchdowns and was named the OAC Offensive Player of the Week on Nov. 11.
Rahill is making his first appearance on the Academic All-OAC squad and is a reserve kicker for the Polar Bears.
Chaney is a two-year letterwinner as a kicker for ONU. He 21-of-23 on extra points and has a 37-yard field goal to his credit for 27 kicking points.
Devine is a two-year letterman as a long snapper and also served as the backup quarterback this fall.
He completed 25-of-35 passes for 270 yards and three touchdowns and had a 158.80 quarterback rating.
Devine also ran for two touchdowns.
The Polar Bears ended their season with a 6-4 record and finished in a three-way tie with Otterbein and Baldwin Wallace in the Ohio Athletic Conference with a 5-4 league mark under 10th-year head coach Dean Paul.
Northern also won for the 17th time in the last 19 regular season finales and finished in the upper division of the OAC for the 17th time in the past 18 seasons.
