Football receives votes in latest weekly D3Football.com, AFCA polls
ADA — The Ohio Northern football team received votes in the sixth weekly 2011 D3Football.com poll and the fourth weekly American Football Coaches Association poll.
The Polar Bears (3-2 overall, 2-2 Ohio Athletic Conference) got four touchdown passes from sophomore Tyler Rue and two interceptions and a blocked PAT from senior Chad Coward to defeat Capital 38-20 on Saturday.
In the D3Football.com poll, Northern has received votes in the last two weekly polls, was ranked No. 24 in the fourth poll, was No. 9 in the third poll, No. 12 in the second weekly poll, No. 13 in the first weekly poll and was No. 14 in the D3Football.com Preseason poll after finishing No. 8 in the final 2010 D3Football.com poll.
ONU received 26 points (tied for 34th) in this week's poll, 13 less than the 39 points it received in the week four poll.
Two-time defending national champion Wisconsin-Whitewater is No. 1, receiving 621 points and 21 first place votes.
Ohio Athletic Conference rival Mount Union is second with 604 points and the four remaining first place votes, Saint Thomas (Minn.) is third with 566 points and Mary Hardin-Baylor (Tex.) is fourth with 557 points.
In th AFCA poll, ONU received 19 points, 44 less than the 63 points it received in the third weekly poll.
ONU was No. 25 in the week two poll and was No. 9 in the first weekly poll.
Wisconsin-Whitewater is No. 1, receiving 1047 points and 39 first place votes, Mount Union is second with 1010 points and the three remaining first place votes, Saint Thomas (Minn.) is third with 929 points and Mary Hardin-Baylor (Tex.) is fourth with 922 points.
Ohio Northern will take to the road Saturday to face Baldwin-Wallace in a 2 pm game in Berea.
