Bio

Troy Chiefari is in his second season as head Esports coach at Ohio Northern.

ONU began competition in League of Legends and Overwatch in the fall of 2019.

Chiefari led the Polar Bears to a 22-7 record in LOL and a 28-6 mark in OW in the 2019-20 seasons.

Northern won the GLEC fall title in LOL with a perfect 8-0 mark and was in first place in the GLEC spring season with an 11-2 mark when the season was ended prematurely due to the conorona virus pandemic.

ONU was second in the GLEC falls eason with an 8-1 record and was leading the GLEC spring season with a 13-1 record.

The Polar Bears reached the finals of the NEC Ohio Championships in OW and reached the semifinals in LOL in the spring.

Chiefari comes to Ohio Northern with a tremendous amount of esports success as both a player and a coach.

He is a former professional player and has coached at both the professional and collegiate levels.

Chiefari played professionally Halo: CE from 2005-07.

He also served as the head coach of Tabula Rasa, which was a League of Legends semi-pro team from 2015-17 and was the competitive manager for the Esports Club at Southern Illinois-Edwardsville.

"I am very excited to start the esports program at Ohio Northern," Chiefari said. "I have worked with teams at the professional and collegiate levels.My goal is to establish a more respoinsible avenue for young adults to pursue esports while also obtaining a college degree for when their competitive playing days end."

Chiefari graduated with a computer management degree from SIUE in 2014.

He is a 7-year veteran of the Illinois National Guard as an aerospace engineer and his hobbies include gymnastics (tumbling and tricking), dance (contemporary and breakdancing) and games and movies.

Troy and his wife, Abby, reside in Findlay.
