ADA — Fifth-year seniors Jack Hutchins (Bright, Ind./East Central) and Sydney Motylinski (Ida, Mich.), senior Keegan Digby (Otsego/Bowling Green) and junior Jordan Dean (Cleveland/Villa Angela St. Joseph) were named Ohio Athletic Conference Athletes of the Week for the week of April 1-7.
Dean broke the 49-year old school record in the 200-meter dash to lead the Ohio Northern men's outdoor track and field team at the Manchester (Ind.) Invitational on Saturday.
Dean won the 100-meter dash in :10.69, the 200-meter dash in :21.43 and was on ONU's winning 4x100 relay team.
His 21.43 edged the 21.2 (hand timed) record set in 1975 by John Wechter. Wechter's hand-timed 21.2 translates into 21.44 with electronic timing, giving Dean the record by .01 of a second.
Hutchins was named the OAC Pitcher of the Week, after throwing a 3-hit shutout with seven strikeouts as the Polar Bears defeated Muskingum 7-0 in the first game of a double header split on Sunday.
Motylinski smacked a pair of home runs and had six RBI to lead the Ohio Northern softball team to a double header sweep of non-conference foe Wooster on a sunny Sunday afternoon.
Motylinski now has 20 home runs in her career at Ohio Northern, which moves her into fourth place in school history.
She also has 128 career base hits and 84 career RBI.
Digby won the shot put with a toss of 17.43 meters, just .03 of a meter shy of his own school record, at the Manchester (Ind.) Invitational. He also won the hammer with a toss of 52.69 meters (172-0) and was fifth in the discus with a toss of 42.48 meters (139-04).
