BEREA, OHIO - The Baldwin-Wallace College women's soccer team was defeated by Ohio Athletic Conference rival Ohio Northern University, 1-0, today (Saturday, October 16, 2010) on the pitch of Tressel Field at The George Finnie Stadium in Berea. This was the first game of a women's and men's doubleheader on "Kick It for the Cure" Day. The Yellow Jacket and Polar Bear men kickoff at 7:00 p.m.
With its loss, B-W is now 6-8-2 overall and 1-4-1 in the OAC and next plays on Tuesday (Oct. 20) when it travels to Alliance, Ohio to play the University of Mount Union at 7:00 p.m. With its victory, Ohio Northern is now 9-5 overall and 3-1 in the OAC.
The Polar Bears scored the lone goal of the game at the 28:04 mark of the first half when Alyssa Merrick found the back of the net off the corner kick.
The Yellow Jackets outshot Ohio Northern 10-9, but was outcornered, 4-2.
In goal, senior Caitlin Sutter (Toledo/ Sylvania Southview) faced nine Polar Bear shots and made three saves.
On Saturday, October 30, the doubleheader between B-W and OAC rival Muskingum University will be taped and then shown on a delay basis by regional cable network SportsTime Ohio (www.sportstimeohio.com). The women's game begins at 4:30 p.m. and men play at 7:00 p.m. The women's game will be shown on October 30 at 9:00 p.m. and again on Monday, November 1 at 5:00 a.m. The men's game will be aired on Sunday, Oct. 31 at 3:30 p.m. and on Monday, Nov. 1 at 7:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon.
