Yellow Jackets Drop First-Place Battle with Ohio Northern, 2-0

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College men's soccer team lost to visiting Ohio Northern University, 2-0, this evening (Wednesday, October 14, 2009) on Tressel Field at The George Finnie Stadium in a battle for first place in the Ohio Athletic Conference.

With the loss, B-W falls to 8-6 overall, 3-1 in the OAC, and has its eight-game win streak snapped. Ohio Northern improves to 10-3-1 overall and 4-0 in the OAC to take sole possession of first place in the league.

The Polar Bears broke a scoreless tie when Dan Otanicar scored with 14:35 remaining in the first half. ONU threatened to add to the lead with 3:05 left in the period, but B-W senior goalkeeper Russ Mika (Medina/ Senior) made a diving stop on another Otanicar shot to keep the score at 1-0 heading into the half.

ONU quickly added to its lead in the second half however when Christian Huelsman scored at the 39:11 mark to make the score 2-0.

In goal, Mika made three saves and falls to 8-5 on the year. Mac Church recorded four stops in net for the Polar Bears.

Both teams attempted 10 shots and two corner kicks.

The Yellow Jackets return to action this Saturday, October 17 versus Muskingum University at 7:30 p.m. on Tressel Field in the second game of a women's and men's doubleheader. The B-W women host the Muskies at 5:30. The doubleheader, along with the B-W football game versus Muskingum at 1:30, will all air via tape delay on SportsTime Ohio in the first television tripleheader in OAC history.
