Men's 4x100-meter relay finishes second in heat race, advances to Saturday's finals on Day 1 of NCAA Championships
ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The 4x100-meter relay team of senior Vini Souza (Spencerville), sophomore Jordan Dean (Euclid/Villa Angela Saint Joseph) and seniors Hunter Kesler (Oakwood/Paulding) and Ollie Jacobs (DeGraff/Riverside) finished second in the second heat of the prelims on Thursday at the NCAA Division III Championships at St. John Fisher's Polisseni Track and Field Complex.
Their time of :40.77 was the fifth fastest time overall and will advance them to the finals on Saturday at 12:55 p.m. The top two times from each heat and the next four fastest times qualified for the finals.
Wisconsin La-Crosse and Rowan earned automatic bids from the first heat, Wisconsin-Oshkosh won the second heat to earn the other automatic qualifying spot. Wisconsin La-Crosse's time of :39.86 set a new Division III record.
"I'm really proud of this group, all the work they did to get here and then to execute on a big stage for the first time was awesome," ONU sprints coach Molly Amidon said of the team qualifying for finals. "I'm very proud of these guys."
