Weekend Preview: The Ohio Northern men's indoor track and field team is competing at the Wittenberg Invitational on Saturday in what is its final meet before the Ohio Athletic Conference Championships on Feb. 25-26 … Field events begin at 11 a.m., and running events start at noon … ONU's 4x400 relay team of seniors Nate Dean and Sam Krabacher, junior Hunter Kesler and freshman Jordan Dean will compete Friday in the Flag City Open at the University of Findlay's Malcolm Athletic Center … Running events begin at 3:30 p.m., and the 4x400 relay is the final event on the schedule … Northern is coming off last Saturday's All-Ohio Championships at Otterbein University … The Polar Bears finished with 109 points, placing second of 18 teams for its best finish at the event since 2012 … Head coach Jason Maus also became the program's new all-time wins leader with 571, surpassing the old mark of 555 set by former coach Brian Cole … The Polar Bears were led at that meet by senior Patrick Baker, who won the 5,000 meters in a personal-best time of 15:06.26, which ranks sixth all-time at ONU … The 4x400 relay team of Krabacher, junior Vini Souza and sophomores David Gross and Trey Myers also brought home a victory, finishing in a time of 3:27.25 … Krabacher added a second-place finish in the 800 meters with a time of 1:56.30 … Nate Dean finished second in the 60 meters with a time of :07.00 … Jordan Dean placed second in the 400 meters with a personal-best time of :49.70, which ranks fifth all-time at ONU … Thomas Masterson finished third in the 5,000 meters with a time of 15:17.29 … ONU's 4x200 relay team of Souza, Nate Dean and juniors Ollie Jacobs and Brandon Berry finished third in 1:32.81 … Senior Luke Shellhaas tied for fifth in the pole vault with a high vault of 4.29 meters … Kesler placed fifth in the 400 meters with a time of :50.91 … Freshman Ozzie Miller placed fifth in the 60 meters with a time of :07.04 … ONU's distance medley relay team of Gross, senior Dylan McKean, junior Brooks Blakeley and sophomore Aaron Guzman also finished fifth, running a time of 10:49.22 … Select student-athletes competed at the Baldwin Wallace Mid-February Meet last Friday, where sophomore Brandon Wise won the pole vault with a high vault of 4.27 meters and freshman Keefer McClure placed second in the 1,000 meters with a time of 2:44.80 … Nate Dean currently holds program records in the 60 meters (:06.94) and 200 meters (:22.09) … The Polar Bears currently have six top-50 marks within all of NCAA Division III … The 4x400 relay team of Nate Dean, Jordan Dean, Krabacher and Kesler ranks 12th with a best time of 3:21.73 … Jordan Dean ranks 17th in the 400 meters (:49.70) … Sophomore Keegan Digby ranks 25th in the shot put (15.23 meters) … In the 200 meters, Kesler (:22.32) ranks 26th and Nate Dean and Jordan Dean are tied for 31st with a time of :22.35 … At the end of the season, the top 20 in each event qualify for the NCAA Division III Championships.
Head Coach Jason Maus: Maus is in his 13th season as the head coach at ONU … He is the all-time winningest coach in program history with a 571-141 overall record, an .802 winning percentage.
