Cubberley completes the sweep of diving events for third consecutive year, leads Men's Swimming and Diving to third place finish at 2024 OAC Championships

AKRON — Junior Holden Cubberley (Celina) swept the diving competitions for the third consecutive year to lead the Ohio Northern men's swimming and diving team on the final day of the 2024 Ohio Athletic Conference Championships meet on Saturday night.

The Basics
- Records: Ohio Northern (8-4 overall)
- Venue: Ocasek Natatorium - Akron, Ohio
- Ohio Northern finished third out of six teams with 687 points in the 20 events over the four-day meet.
- John Carroll won the team title with 876.5 points. Mount Union was second with 690 points, Baldwin Wallace was fourth with 432.5 points, Wilmington was fifth with 332 points and Heidelberg was sixth with 9 points.
Meet Highlights
- Cubberley finished his 11 dives with 517.00 points. On Friday, he won the 1-meter diving with 515.25 points.
- Sophomore Selby Wilt (Findlay) and junior Brady Horgan (New Richmond/McNicholas) both earned All-Conference honors in the 100 free. Wilt was second in :45.83 and Horgan was third in :46.40.
- Sophomore Long Huynh (Billings, Mt./West) earned All-OAC honors with a third place finish in the 200 fly in 1:55.74.
- The 400 free relay team of Wilt, sophomore Nathan Clark (Cleves/Elder), sophomore Tyler Edmonds (Youngsville, La./Southside) and Horgan earned All-Conference accolades with a second place finish in 3:05.35.
- Northern put six in the top 10 in the 200 breast, led by Edmonds in fourth in 2:08.51. Clark was fifth in the event in 2:08.84.
- Freshman Nathan Herbert (Medina/Highland) was fifth in the 1650 free in 16:44.13.
- Senior Charlie Spyker (Harrod/Shawnee) was seventh in the 200 back in 1:57.75.
Notables
- The meet consists of 20 events, including 13 individual races, five relays and two diving events.
- The top three individuals and top two relays in each event earn All-Conference honors.
- The top 16 finishers in each individual event and the two diving events score team points.
- There were seven events contested on Friday.
- Wilt's :45.83 in the 100 free finals was just .02 of a second off the school record. His :45.82 in the prelim missed the school record by just .01 of a second.
- Ohio Northern has won 12 OAC Championships titles since 2005.
- Austin Veltman is 31-17 in his sixth season as head coach of the Polar Bears.
