Men's Swimming & Diving sweeps relays, hold 64-point lead on Day 1 of 2015 OAC Swimming & Diving Championships

AKRON — Ohio Northern swept both relays and built a 64-point lead on Day 1 of the three-day 2015 Ohio Athletic Conference Swimming & Diving Championships Thursday at the University of Akron's Ocasek Natatorium.
Through five of 20 events, the Polar Bears have 227.5 points, Mount Union is second with 163.5 points and Wilmington is third with 140.5 points.
Sophomore Eric Chen, junior Mitchell Murphy, senior Chris W. Hoffman and sophomore Logan Pfeifer won the 200 free relay in 1:24.13 in the first event of the night.
Freshman Gabe Dauch led a 3-4-5 Polar Bear finish in the 200 I.M. and earned All-OAC accolades in the process with a third place finish in 1:57.54.
In the 50 free, Murphy and Pfeifer had All-OAC finishes to lead a 2-3-4-7 ONU finish.
Murphy was second in :21.37 and Pfeifer was third in :21.46.
Northern won the final event of the day as Dauch, senior Jason Luthman, sophomore Jeremy Preston and Chen won the 400 medley relay in 3:28.05.
The Polar Bears have won 10 straight OAC titles and are gunning for their 11th consecutive crown this season.
Day 2 will be on Friday and Day 3 will be on Saturday.
