Tigers Rally For Win At Ohio Northern

ADA, Ohio — The Wittenberg Tigers overcame an eight-point second-half deficit to claim their third win in as many outings, overtaking host Ohio Northern by a 52-44 final score.

After falling behind midway through the first half, Wittenberg trailed most of the rest of the way. However, the Tigers found their offense in the crucial stretch run. Helping spark the run was sophomore guard Kelsey Casey (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington), who picked up a pair of steals to lead to transition buckets. Held in check for most of the night, junior post Stephanie Boardman (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley) emerged late to once again break into double figures with a 12-point performance.

Trailing 36-29 with less than nine minutes to go, the Tigers put together an 11-4 run, capped by a three-pointer by sophomore wing Katherine Hueter (Columbus, Ohio/Hilliard Darby). The triple was the only one of the night for the Tigers, but it provided the momentum the Tigers would need to close out the contest.

After a pair of ONU free throws tied up the game at 42 inside of four minutes remaining, Wittenberg ran off eight consecutive points to take their largest lead of the night.

Both teams had the turnover bug, as the two teams combined for 45 turnovers. However, the Tigers won the rebound battle for the third time in as many contests as they took down 34 on the night. Hueter led the way with six to go along with her 10 points.

The Tigers will be back in action in the Fred Raizk Wilmington Thanksgiving Tournament on Saturday, Nov. 28, when they take on Bethany (W Va.) in a semifinal at 8 p.m.
