ADA — Freshman Taylor Baxter (Bellevue) had 11 kills and six blocks to lead the No. 14 Ohio Northern volleyball team to a 25-17, 25-21, 25-8 on Wednesday night at the Raizk Center.
The Polar Bears improve to 16-1 overall and remain in first place in the Ohio Athletic Conference with a 4-0 mark after posting their seventh consecutive victory.
The Quakers fall to 3-19, 0-4.
Senior Melina Woods (Ada) and freshman Erin Wagner (Massillon/Perry) each had seven kills.
Sydney Geibel led WC with six kills.
Northern used an 8-2 run in the opening set to grab a 22-14 lead. Back-to-back block assists by Wagner and Baxter gave ONU a 24-16 lead and a kill by Baxter ended the set.
ONU took an early 4-0 lead in Set 2, then went on a 6-0 run to extend the lead to 11-3. Wilmington chipped away at the lead and pulled within 23-20, but a kill by sophomore Kassie Bowmar (Sunbury/Big Walnut) ended the set at 25-21.
The Polar Bears exploded for 13 consecutive points to grab an early 15-2 lead and cruised to the victory from there, hitting .476 in the set.
The Polar Bears hit .245 for the match with 38 kills and 15 errors on 94 attacks, while the Quakers hit -.039 with 17 kills and 21 errors on 102 attempts.
Ohio Northern returns to the court on Saturday when they host John Carroll in a 1 pm match at the ONU Sports Center.
